Long Term Experience

The Stinis family founded a company for marine equipment in the year 1830 and thus Stinis has over 170 years of experience in cargo handling equipment. In 1967 Stinis designed and produced the handling equipment for the first "iron boxes" (now called containers) shipped between the USA and Europe. During the past 35 years Stinis has expanded its activities in developing a wide range of container handling equipment and today Stinis is considered one of the worlds leading designers and manufacturers of state-of-the-art and reliable container handling equipment and special, custom-built handling gear.

Telescoping top lifting spreaders.

Based on a modular design this spreader concept is available for the entire range of handling equipment applied in container terminals. The telescoping spreaders handle 20, 30, 40 and 45' containers and even 48' and 53' can be handled due to the heavy-duty spreader frame. More than 500 of these spreaders are operating for many years in Gantry Cranes, Mobile Harbour Cranes, Stacking Cranes, Straddle Carriers, Reach Stackers and Forklift Trucks.

LONG-TWIN spreaders

This recent innovative (and patented) design does increase the gantry crane productivity with 20-25%. These LONG-TWIN Spreaders expand the 20ft containers separately up to a distance of 1.6 from each other, which is very advantageous for handling operations (positioning on hatches, seal checking on the dock, easy positioning for yard handling equipment).

The whole idea of the LONG-TWIN spreader design of Stinis has changed the ideas of terminal operations. Twin-lift terminal operations with LONG-TWIN Spreaders are real attractive.

Product Range

Stinis has developed a wide range of container spreaders and cargo lifting equipment. In general there are 6 major product types:

These spreaders have been designed to be used with conventional ships, luffing harbour cranes and shipboard cranes and are used as spare (back-up) spreaders.

Accessory equipment for container handling.

The close co-operation with customers has resulted in a variety of equipment required by terminal operators in their day-to-day operations. Such equipment comprises: telescoping over-height /over-wide adapter frames for gantry cranes and yard handling equipment, safety cages for lashing activities (fixed or telescoping), safety cages for rescue and maintenance operations, heavy lift frames, etc.

Lifting equipment.

Over the years a broad range of lifting equipment has been delivered to many customers in many different industries. Special frames for big bag handling, frames for paper and pulp handling, special hooks for steel coils, heavy duty fork attachments for 20- tons pallets, special chains, universal kits for heavy lift operations are just a few of numerous types.  The increase of productivity and the maintenance of safe operations are the major drivers for the development of such custom- built lifting equipment.

Flipper construction For the Gantry production range of spreaders, the flippers are the most important part.  The huge and very strong over-dimensioned Stinis flippers improve the productivity of a Gantry Crane by at least 10% to 15%, in contrast with the running spreaders.  The flipper actuators are a special Stinis design to absorb any "ill-treatment" of the flippers and spreader.  The flipper actuators can absorb forces of over 16 tons in all directions.  Flipper torques of 7000 NM are possible.
